One of the most frequent calls that we get here at West Side Roofing is about chimneys. It is not uncommon that over time a chimney will begin to leak, especially brick chimneys. Because a chimney is part of the roof, people will assume that we are equipped to fix that leak.
Though this leakage is usually attributed to a masonry issue, we can still help identify and inform you about why this happens. We speak the masonry language, but we are not equipped to make those repairs.
However, sometimes there is a chimney issue that we can help you with, and that is with the flashing along the bottom of the chimney where it meets the roof.
In the first example in the video, you can see that there were some pretty large cracks in the actual brick of the chimney which we recommended the owner have a mason come out and fix that. But their flashing was also coming apart as well. We were able to help eliminate water leakage through the flashing by repairing these cracks.
We didn't even have to buy new flashing for their chimney because the original material was in such good shape. This helped save us time and the customer money!
Yes! Most of the time, a chimney issue is a roofing issue, but every now and then it could be that the brick is too porous or even cracked. But we never know until we get up on the roof and inspect it.
We are happy to come out and take a look at your chimney if you are experiencing a leak or even if you can see that your chimney might look like it needs a little maintenance. Contact us at West Side Roofing today to schedule a time for us to take a look or to ask us any questions about your chimney or roof!
