Today, slate and tile roofs are viewed as a luxury. The curb appeal on both is unlike any other roofing material. You can expect slate and tile to last for a good part of a century, sometimes even 150 years! As you can imagine, the downside to slate and tile roofs are the expensive prices that come with installation or repairs. Throughout the years, West Side Roofing has been fortunate to collect inventory of different color and sizes to make installation and repairs much easier for the customer. On many jobs, we can keep the price lower than our competitors because we have the inventory easily available to complete the job!
Why Slate?
- Most homeowners are surprised to find that slate is available in many different sizes, thicknesses, and colors. Colors ranging from green, purple, black or even a mottled color (blend of colors).
- Slates are installed with minimal waste, so their environmentally friendly. When installing common asphalt shingles, roofing companies add in waste factor (5,10 or even 20%) depending on the job. These shingles are then dumped into your local landfills. Taking in waste and their longevity, slate roofs make a great green roof.
Why Tile?
- Tile is specifically designed for long lasting performance. The dimensions of tile provides natural water shedding and ventilation advantages compared to other roofing materials. Adding in its strength and weight, tile roofs are the best at giving homeowners true long-lasting beauty.
- Like slate, tiles come in a wide variety of shapes, colors and sizes. Tiles can be flat, rounded (above picture), or even resemble a wood shake. Tiles also hold their color.
Due to the natural and durable products used to make tile, manufacturers will often warranty their tiles against fading for 50 years.
